Eddie Redmayne's designer leather jacket costs less than a latte per wear.
When investing in luxury outerwear, you should temper your retail decisions with a simple equation: total retail cost divided by frequency of wear. It's a simple way of deciding if a seemingly out-of-your-price-range leather jacket is an insane purchase or a smart investment. And last night in London Eddie Redmayne proved that it's not just for guys on a budget.
The Oscar winning actor and style MVP showed up on the red carpet in a black motorcycle jacket paired with a classic fall look: oxford shirt, wool sweater, chinos and lace-up suede boots. His mix of deep navy blue, warm gray, and rich burgundy was a fresh take on fall colors and his untucked oxford kept the whole thing from looking overly studious. But what we really dig is the leather jacket from British label AllSaints. This is what we mean when we say outerwear makes an outfit, and it's not the first time Redmayne has made use of this same jacket's style magic. Back in 2013, Redmayne wore it to the MTV Movie Awards. We praised him then and TBH, three years later, both him and the jacket look even better than before—is Redmayne aging backwards?
So, what's the cost per wear on the star's favorite moto jacket? If he wears it just 50 times a year, over a three year period, he's paying $3.98 per wear. That's less than the going rate of a latte. With that in mind, maybe start making coffee at home and say yes to the grail-level piece of outerwear you've got your eye on. If it's a classic leather jacket like this, we're pretty sure it'll be worth it.
