4 of the Magnificent Seven Wore Great Suits Last Night

The cast of Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven suited up last night for the film's premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The group of ten men and one woman (which included Fuqua himself) commanded attention on the red carpet. They stood, heroes and villains alike, on a set of steps leading up to a giant golden number seven. This was a stage set for movie star-level majesty and glamour. So it's cool that four of the actual magnificent seven wore suits worthy of their hollywood moniker.

Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Byung-hun Lee all brought their A-game to the event. Washington's navy and black "almost" monochrome look was a leading man move in subtle sophistication. And one that lets us concentrate on his heartthrob good looks. For a man in his early sixties this suit is a very successful swerve. Pratt pulled off an advanced level of pattern mixing with his pinstripe suit and gingham dress shirt. And the burgundy tie he chose to wear does a great job of uniting the two while simultaneously warming his complexion under the harsh light of a camera flash. Hawke made a bold statement in a slick black suit from Dior Homme and a cut-away collar dress shirt from the same designer. This is the right way to go formal without a tie. And the actor's grooming shaves years off of his handsome face. Lee's classic formal black suit and patent leather shoes were the perfect backdrop for his pin dot black and white tie. And the fit of the pants is a visual lesson in how the right length hem and proper tapering can take a pretty good suit into magnificent territory.

As for the rest of the cast, we're not against their fits entirely, but in each case there's something throwing it all off. Sarsgaard's wildly undone grooming, D'Onofrio's big messy collar, and the shiny victorian pattern on Sensmeier's suit jacket have us wishing these otherwise stylish men would have kept things a bit more pulled together.
