Fresh off the house's Spring-Summer 2017 runway in Milan.
Yesterday, red-hot fashion house Gucci—purveyors of all things (mostly animals) embroidered, appliquéd, and badass right now—and the most insane-o shoes in the world—unveiled its latest womenswear collection on the runway in Milan. However, given Alessandro Michele's commitment to what seems to be a genderless wardrobe—a world where men where silk shirts and women wear oversized jeans—he couldn't help but include few new (and breathtaking) menswear looks in the mix.
As expected, the clothes were daring, colorful, and will take serious guts to wear. (We're still struggling with the idea of built in bows tied around our necks.) But relative to some of Michele's other offerings, the menswear in the show actually was a welcomed palette cleanser to the symphony of pattern and color seen in the women's looks. Still, there was a vague sense of '70s sex appeal mashed together with Renaissance-era opulence in the jackets, perhaps most vividly in a pink silk ankle-length coat with embroidered flowers and a pleated lower half. Cheers in advance to whatever style legend steps out wearing that come 2017.
And even in the black tie get-up, which stuck to the traditional black and white color scheme, Michele showed the power of accessories when it comes to setting one's self apart from the rest of the monkey suits (note: cool glasses, tons of rings, and dirty white sneakers).
Additionally, if I could just get some sort of pre-order information for that pindot navy blue suit, that would be greatly appreciated, Alessandro. Calling it now: That is going to the suit of the season come next spring, and I'm just trying to get my hands on it before Gosling and Hiddleston do.
