It's called velvet and it's not just for lounge singers anymore.
Autumn doesn't technically doesn't start for another six days, there's no better time than now to hop on the coolest trends of the season. You won't be the first, though, because Mark Ronson is already leading the way on one of fall's biggest movements: velvet.
We know, velvet sounds like a difficult sartorial proposition, but it was seen at cool brands from Gucci and Saint Laurent to Haider Ackermann and Etro. And Mark Ronson's endorsement helps to seal the deal. In fact, he does one better: He expertly demonstrates how you should wear it, which is always helpful.
Instead diving straight into the deep end with, say, a full velvet tuxedo (too retro) or a pair of drop-crotch Rick Owens pants (too swerve-y), he opted for an very straightforward way to embrace the trend. He just swapped out his regular dress trousers with a pair made of dark velvet, so they're not too aggressive but also adds a little bit of texture and classes up the outfit. The rest, naturally, is pure Ronson swagger—the way he went for a straight, slightly flared cut, the rock 'n' roll patterned shirt (with two buttons undone), the ahead-of-the-game square-toe boots, the sunglasses and the impeccable pompadour.
Velvet. It's a thing. Get into it now before all your friends.
