Orlando Bloom Has A Shoe Hack That Will Make Winter Way Better

Yes, you can wear casual kicks year-round

Summer's long gone and by this point, you've probably tucked away your pearly white sneakers, so as to save them from the harsh meteorological conditions in store. But just because the sun isn't shining and the days are substantially shorter than the milder months of yore, doesn't mean you have to completely abandon your casual footwear. No, you just need to adjust accordingly.

Take a cue from Orlando Bloom, for example, who showed us exactly how to keep that casual sneaker feeling all winter long by sporting a pair of brown Nike Air Force 1 high-tops in New York City yesterday (while visiting Soho's own Nike store, natch). His solution? Swapping out your glistening white kicks for a pair in a darker color, like brown.

Now you don't have to live your life in constant fear that the nearest sidewalk puddle or passing cloud will spell out the end of your favorite shoes. In fact, much like brown leather boots, sneakers in darker shades tend to look better over time with a little wear and tear. Plus, they're an excellent way to finish off an outfit, as you shift from lighter, airier fabrics and colors to sturdier textiles (like Bloom's selvedge denim and wool coat) and darker shades of blue, gray, and black. It certainly doesn't hurt that they echo the shape and shade of a classic Desert boots, and, at a passing glance, look like them, too—which means you can wear them in place of some Desert boots, should you so wish. In fact, consider wearing them as you would any pair of boots, except keep in mind they're likely not as resilient as tougher, made-for-bad-weather styles. Still, if you're trying to keep some SoCal chill despite the New England chill, this is definitely one way to split the difference.
