Tom Hardy Comes Out of Hiding, Kills It In A Power Suit

When it comes to style, there are two very different Tom Hardys: the tailoring-friendly, suited-up red carpet virtuoso and the graphic T-shirt-loving, distressed jeans-wearing bro. Both of which are totally valid, and, hey, at least it makes for an interesting little guessing game whenever he's slated to appear somewhere.

So, last night in London, when he was scheduled to attend the UK premiere of new BBC One drama Taboo, which Hardy created and stars in, the question was: what the hell will keep-'em-guessin' Hardy wear?

Boom, to our relief, the 39-year-old actor indulged his more formal side, wearing a pinstriped, double-breasted suit with wide peak lapels — a bold move, to say the least. While earlier this year the New York Times may have bid the Wall Street Power Suit a fond farewell, Hardy is definitely giving us pause, making us re-think the once-fussy boardroom standby.

When Hardy, who is already a confirmed style legend in his own right, dresses up, he's rarely the one to do a half-assed job of it. He's the guy to go with some pattern, or with a three-piece suit, or with the eye-catching details (like an amazing watch or slick shades). And he can always be relied on to bring with him a killer haircut/beard combo. Last night, he continued his mission, adding a shirt-and-tie combo with a slightly retro vibe, a move that would make the Mighty Gosling proud. And while on first glance it may look like he's suffering from a case of overly-prounounced shoulder divots and pants with an overzealous break, all is forgiven because these don't seem like overlooked errors, but, instead, stylistic choices, which makes all the difference. In fact, the structured jacket and slightly relaxed trousers create a nice balance, a little sartorial yin-and-yang to carry you into December.

All in all, it's a great fit. Now we'll just keep a lookout for his next, questionable, look.
