It's been said that one man's trash is another man's treasure, and in the same way, one man's fashion swerve is another's daily uniform. Which is to say that when it comes to personal style, risk is relative.

So, knowing his history, we were surprised to see Rocky arrive at the amfAR Gala in Cannes yesterday. And it's not because he was wearing something wild or over the time, but because he pulled an about-face and wore Gucci, in the most traditional, low-key way possible.

Believe it or not, this is Gucci, but not the tricked-out, bonkers Gucci you've become used to—it's part of their DIY service, which is entering its second phase of customizable suits and unisex jackets and shoes. Now, Rocky could have easily gone with his usual trend-driven, flashy approach, but instead, he went super simple and picked a plain peak lapel. two-button tuxedo made of black grosgrain and paired it with a crisp white shirt and the brand's classic black loafer and we're like wow. It's one thing to turn heads when you're wearing layers or bright colors and this season's sickest stuff, but to do so when you're wearing the most classic piece of menswear out there? Now that takes some serious talent. And the key is, as usual, nailing the fit, which A$AP Rocky does, from the sharp shoulder to the way the jacket is pinched slightly in the waist to the hem and taper of the pants. It's the epitome of how excellent tailoring and elevate a look that's been seen before.
