Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis is the latest It-kid to go out into the world wearing a pendant necklace over a turtleneck. Before him came model-of-the-moment Lucky Blue Smith and Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick. And before them, there was Justin Timberlake circa The Backstreet Boys and Prince. Point is, there are always a few gents who decide they’ve got the swagger to pull this move. It’s a look that says, I might appear to be the fanciest person in this room but at my core, I’m scrappy as hell (which explains why it's a signature move of badass grandmothers everywhere). It's fun, you know, but not for everyone. After all, Lonely Island didn't name their second album Turtleneck & Chain because they believed in the combo as a solid style move.

The good news is that these two items are plenty swag-tastic on their own. A knit turtleneck instantly makes you look sophisticated, wealthy, and a little bit villainous. The gold or silver pendant necklace has a similar, if a little bit tougher, appeal. We say incorporate both into your fall wardrobe for kicks, but only wear them together if you’re prepared to act like you're on the set of the The Godfather for the entire night.
