Frank Ocean Wears Vans to Fancy White House State Dinner, Continues To

While most headlines are focused on what MObama wore to last night's State Dinner honoring Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife Agnese Landini (she diplomatically wore a dress from Italian brand Versace), we'd like to focus on Mr. Frank Ocean's sartorial choices and anoint him the best dressed man of the evening.

Ocean—who has a pretty epic year and released like, two albums, a magazine, and a video installation/art project after going radio silent post-Channel Orange—is definitely the type of celebrity we like seeing at fancy establishment events such as this, to shake things up a bit. And the 28-year-old did not disappoint. While he certainly dressed for the occasion in a navy suit, he made sure to let his personality shine through in the details. Just check out the single pleat of pants (nice!), the fact that Ocean decided to go with no tie (boom!), and—most importantly—that he finished everything off with a pair of checkered slip-on Vans (damnnnn Daniel). It's a chill AF move we wholeheartedly approve of from an enduring sneaker brand that happens to be the coolest shoe out there right now. Oh, and side note: The woman he brought with him? That's his mom (awwww).

This isn't the first time that Frank has done this—he wore a pair of Vans with his black suit at the 2013 Time 100 gala. We appreciate the consistency of a uniform and his ability to master the whole suit-with-sneakers thing, which just so happens to be an obsession here in the GQ office.

Rock on Frank, and please don't make us wait another three years for your next album.
