Moody Shy Boy Zayn Malik Is Designing for Versace

The singer is working on a capsule collection for Versus.

Zayn Malik is really committed to this whole fashion thing.

After collaborating with Italian shoe god Guiseppe Zanotti and making the requisite line of merchandise to coincide with the release of his new album, the crooner and former One Direction member is taking on a new fashion challenge: designing for Versus Versace.

The line, a sort of little sister to capital-v Versace, had been designed by Anthony Vaccarello until he was appointed as the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent. Donatella Versace has used Versus as a sort of incubator grounds for talented young designers—including Christopher Kane and JW Anderson—but she also once did a small collection with M.I.A.

"Many celebrities do clothing lines that just aren’t relevant," Versace said during an interview with The New York Times, in which she later added that Zayn will help her reach a younger audience. "This one? It will be. He’s smart to do it with me."

The men's and women's collection, which will be available in stores and line May 2017, is called Zayn X Versus. And if his own words are any indication, the line will be full of all the things cool teens (and people pretending to be cool teens) will want to wear.

"I think Versus has always been a very cool brand and is a great brand for me and for people in my generation," the famously reticent 23-year-old told the Times in an email. I've always wanted to design clothes and there's no brand I'd rather design for than Versus. I like to learn about things I'm interested in and I enjoy being around creative people so I think it will be cool. The bonus is that I get to collaborate with Donatella, whom I love and admire. I know we'll create something amazing."
