At the MTV Europe Music Awards last night, music types from all over the world gathered in Rotterdam to follow in the grand tradition of MTV awards shows (in short: mini concerts with some ambiguous awards peppered throughout). But we're not here to talk about vocal chops or who beat who for a globe-with-springy-thing statue, we're here to talk about what people wore. Because style is becoming an ever-more important aspect of these sorts of high-profile gatherings, a chance for your favorite crooners to show off their ability to look as good as they sound. And with the whole damn world watching, these guys did not disappoint. Here are our five favorite looks of the night.
The Weeknd
Good ole Abél looks great there with his prize for best video, and it's in no small part thanks to his new 'do. In fact, factor in the beard, and his whole grooming look is on point. Add that to his pared-down look of black-on-black, with a little monochromatic flair on his embellished jacket, and he's killing it on all fronts.
Tinie Tempah
It's no secret that we're fans of Mr. Tempah's modern take on the suited dandy look, and he did not disappoint here. The 28-year-old Brit stood out in a bold plaid suit with black grosgrain trim from (yup, you guessed it) Gucci, but thanks to a spot-on fit and simple underpinnings, he didn't look over-the-top. More like ... festive.
G-Eazy
Fresh from a 2016-approved Halloween costume, rapper G-Eazy left his toxic sludge green hair be, and opted to keep everything else super low-key. The musician has a penchant for Saint Laurent, and his slick look here suggests that he may be wearing the famed brand, but, real talk, it's the coif that's the real star here.
Bruno Mars
Bruno has been killing it of late, with a sexy slow-jam and a killer look (that he designed) in just the past week, so it's no surprise that he's continuing the streak here. Instead of flashy, though, Mars went full-on cozy, with a sweatsuit (so trendy right now) emblazoned with the Tommy Hilfiger logo (again, so trendy!). He's giving us early 90s vibes—to match his recent drop "Versace on the Floor", perhaps?—and we're digging it.
Joe Jonas
Sometimes simplicity can be the real winner, especially in a sea of people trying to sartorially outdo one another. This is the case with Joe Jonas, who walked the red carpet in a graphic sweater, and had a similar look post-show, but really killed it on stage in black jeans, a white tee, and a leather jacket, a look that every guy should have handy, tbh.
