Alexander McQueen's $10.5 Million Penthouse Is As Stylish As You Think

The late designer's sleek pad has been put on the market.

Six years after Alexander McQueen’s death, the celebrated designer’s London home has been listed for sale. McQueen purchased the 119-year-old Victorian townhouse in 2009 and was in the process of renovating it while staying in a nearby rental property when he passed away. The lower floors of the Mayfair building were sold in 2010, while the upper floors sat empty. Then, a little bit over a year ago, interior designer Paul Davies got to work transforming the space into a luxury penthouse. And not just any luxury penthouse, but one designed in homage to McQueen himself.

The stunning $10.5M two-bedroom property is mostly neutral-color couches, ornate chandeliers, and black walnut floors but Davies—or the real estate agents handling the sale, or both—also incorporated nods to McQueen throughout the home to increase its cache as a historical property. Photos of the designer, his friends and muses, and his runway shows line the walls, McQueen’s signature skull motif is incorporated into the décor of the main living room, and the space that connects the living room and kitchen is referred to as a “catwalk” instead of, you know, a hallway.

Peter Wetherell, founder of the real estate company handling the sale told the New York Times that “connection with celebrity is certainly never a deterrent, and associations with specific characters and brands—especially fashion brands—are only growing in popularity within the global luxury property market.”

We can't help but think that McQueen, with his cynicism of consumer culture and anti-establishment instincts, would have had a laugh at such a display.
