Better late than never to enter the Merch Wars of 2016.

John Mayer is a fashion obsessive who's more tapped into the zeitgeist than you might think. He has a tibetan robe collection that most Sante Fe art dealers would drool over, he really digs a hyped-up pair of sneakers (like those Nike x Acronym Prestos), he knows how to take care of a nice white tee, and he has an incredibly entertaining, often informative Snapchat where he stays current on the latest Internet "challenges." Now, in a true show of his commitment to all things #relevant in 2016, he has unveiled his new merchandise—or as the kids say, "merch." And, to be honest, the shirt he posted to Instagram doesn't look half bad. Actually, it's pretty darn good.

Basically Mayer has taken a sunfaded tee—kind of like the color you'd see in Martha's Vineyard gift shop, and one he likely saw lots of growing up in Fairfield, Connecticut—and adorned it with some cool palm trees and squiggly typography graphics (like those used today by hypebeast-favorites like Anti Social Social Club). It's not exactly what we might expect from the guy who wore a full Visvim outfit on his last album cover, but it's cool nonetheless. The words "LOVE ON THE WEEKEND," which are printed all over the shirt, are the title of Mayer's new single, which just debuted yesterday via Facebook but is now streaming on Apple Music.

The tees were created by graphic designer Jeremy Dean, who gained notoriety back in 2012 when he released a series of T-shirts that mashed up the logos of Mayer's own tour buddies The Grateful Dead alongside that of legendary hardcore band Black Flag. So far there's no timetable for the release of these tees, but just in time, John Mayer has officially entered the relentless, ongoing, sometimes exhausting Merch Wars of 2016. And so far, he seems to be doing quite well.
