Nike's New LunarCharge Combines Your Three Iconic Nike Sneakers Into One New Shoe

It's a mash-up of some classic Nikes.

Nike has an arsenal of iconic silhouettes, but three in particular sit towards the top of the heap: the Nike Air Presto, the Air Max 90, and the Air Current. So you might be pleased to know the athletic brand baked all three legendary styles into it's latest release, the LunarCharge.

In the same way that a music producer can take a sample and spin it into an entirely new song (and, often, a more satisfying result), Nike's design team has pulled the best parts of the three sneakers to use in its new lifestyle shoe. It features a breathable upper thank to some Nike Air Flow-inspired neoprene, sock-like construction that calls to mind the Air Presto, and a cushioned outsole similar to that on the LunarEpic. The most obvious wink at the past is the eyelet design lifted from Air Max 90, while the most subtle reference is the overall silhouette of the Air Current. While the LunarCharge's real strength is its roots in classic styles—which make it appropriate for everything from sweats to slim jeans—ultimately, the shoe is fit for 2016 because people can't seem to get enough of the performancewear aesthetic.

And just because the LunarCharge is intended as a lifestyle shoe, we doubt anyone would object should you sport these to the gym (the better bet is they'd ask you where you got them). In our world of constantly-blurring lines between weekend and workday wears pretty much anything goes anyway (though you might get some side eye for showing up to your job as a banker in a sweatsuit). The LunarCharge is one of the coolest new shoes of 2016 to encapsulate that ever-widening gray area.
