Here's Why White Sneakers Aren't Always Your Best Bet

Michael Fassbender's shoes launched him into dad territory.

Here's proof that good looks and a svelte physique, not to mention movie star status, don't automatically equal great style. While promoting his new film Assassin's Creed in Germany today, Michael Fassbender's inner dad took over via an unfortunate combination of clothing choices punctuated by a pair of minimal white sneakers. Fassbender is without question an icon of masculine sex appeal—ask any woman within ten feet of you right now. But none of that was apparent today. Instead we got a simulacrum of the stylish actor we're used to seeing. One that's safe and dependable, but not all that cool.

First mistake, Fassbender wore a tucked-in flannel layered over a perfectly fine (we're guessing) white tee, making it read like an undershirt—c'mon, dad. Fassbender's blouson jacket, and its bunching sleeves, didn't help, nor did his dark distressed denim or the rectangular belt buckle calling out for attention from his waist. And the white kicks, normally a nice addition to any casual fit, look try-hard here. If we were to break this outfit down to its individual pieces, we'd have a pile of solid wardrobe essentials. But as it is the combination looks unmistakably fatherly. Our advice, lose the belt or swap it for one with less contrast and a smaller buckle. Next choose either the flannel or the T-shirt but not both. Or in a pinch, button the flannel up to cover that little white triangle of the tee. As for the jeans, we don't mind the wash, but they could use a more modern hem. Fassbender is six feet tall, but here he looks shorter.

To be clear we love dads, but we love stylish dads more. Just kidding...sort of.
