Fleece shorts...over the jeans? That's a first.
Justin Bieber has had some year. He was on the cover of GQ, he was a frontrunner in 2016's great Merch Wars (that he sold everywhere from Forever 21 to Barney's), and collaborated with Jerry Lorenzo of white hot label Fear of God on a custom Purpose Tour wardrobe (full of stuff that guys actually wanted to wear, not some sequined tuxedo jackets). He also did a lot of weird stuff, like got a stomach tattoo and wore tiny red-tinted sunglasses. Today, his album Purpose was nominated for an Album of the Year Grammy among many others.
However, in a year of many ups and downs, his wardrobe has remained baggy, streetwear-centric, and in some cases, ill-advised. The latest questionable move: Bieber has been spotted on stage recently wearing a pair of white Fear of God fleece shorts over a pair of the brand's wildly popular $900 jeans. It's a move we've never seen before—and hope not to see again.
Wearing tights under your gym shirts on your way to get your sweat on is one thing, and a move packed with practical implications (also, no one wants to see your junk in spandex). We understand that creative layering has hit critical mass but this just looks uncomfortable and kind of hot. Not even Kanye West, lord of oversized Adidas gear and leather kilts on stage, would try this, nor have we seen Jerry Lorenzo, the man responsible for the pieces try anything close to this.
It's also worth noting that this is the second time in a week Justin has worn questionable "pants". He appeared on Ellen yesterday in some shorts and knee-high soccer socks:
Maybe regular pants are just too boring for a guy who can afford to buy a new pair every day.
