As stealthy as footwear gets in 2016.
Nike's Flyknit Racers were an undisputed a game-changer in the sneaker industry when they were released in 2012. Not only were they incredibly lightweight and almost sci-fi in their futuristic appeal, but they instantly became go-to footwear for stylish men—not just those hitting the track. There was a deluge of Nike Flyknits in street style galleries and it didn't take long for the silhouette to reach near-iconic status. These days, Nike Flyknits are as commonplace as any other sneakers. And while the always-innovating Nike has worked tirelessly to improve upon the style, it's the original model that, in our humble opinion, still looks the best. And yesterday, the brand made things even better when they released the original Flyknit Racer in an undeniably cool all-black colorway.
What made Nike Flyknits spark with the masses—its almost painful-to-look-at "volt" colorway that was marketing gold—has now been completely inverted in this stealthy iteration. The "triple black" craze has taken over not just Nike, but brands like Adidas (which just released its all-black Ultra Boost today) and Under Armour (which dropped its all-black Curry 3 on Black Friday). What is about all-black sneakers that make them so covetable? Maybe it's that they look badass. Maybe it's that they make planning the rest of your outfit easy and look awesome with a gray suit. (And in some cases even work with a dressed-down tuxedo.) Or maybe it's they get less dirty than their all-white counterparts.
