Four New Style Emoji Will Change Your Menswear-Based Texting Game Forever*

*Probably not. But we did figure out the best way to use the trenchcoat.

Another iPhone, another iOS. Another iOS means another batch of emojis. And another batch of emojis means more icon-based ways to perform intimacy with our closest sort-of friends. If you have friends like ours, the running sneaker emoji (often accompanied by those not-praying-praying hands) is used more often then the thumb's up. And with this new re-up, there's a bucket of new emojis includes four pulled straight from the world of style: a trenchcoat, a scarf, a pair of gloves, and a baseball cap. Being the sort of people who spend all day texting each other about clothes, the GQ.com style team got together to figure out when, where, and how to use each of these new tools.

The Trenchcoat

  • When you're really into the new Burberry collection.
  • When you’re being a detective.
  • When you're talking about Bulgarian fashion prodigy Kiko Kostadinov's new gig as a designer at Mackintosh, legendary home of water-resistant outerwear.
  • When you’re feeling vaguely parental.
  • When it’s finally pumpkin spice season (i.e. right now)
  • When it's time to bust out the good cashmere.
  • When you’re discussing Christmas gifts with grandma.

The Gloves

  • When it’s all hands on deck.
  • When you’re discussing or handling something carefully.
  • When you’re clapping like Nicole Kidman.

Go forth and text, friends.
