Justin Timberlake is so stylish he makes getting on best-dressed lists look like it's easy. And with no less than five GQ covers under his belt, the fact that the he can wear the hell out of a suit should come as no surprise.

But even the best-dressed among us sometimes step off the beaten path of style with less than best-dressed results, and the tie Timberlake wore to the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of his new documentary Justin Timberlake and the Tennessee Kids, was just that: a multicolored silk misstep.

We're all for the boldly patterned ties that guys like Ryan Gosling and Dwyane Wade have been championing this summer. And while Timberlake's might have worked with another outfit, in this pairing it's not exactly harmonious. See, if you're going to wear a bold tie, you sort of have to pick a not-so-bold suit to team it up with. And a green, pink, and yellow mandala printed cravat simply doesn't mesh well with a gray windowpane peak lapel suit.

The singer seems to understand this—after the red carpet he actually took off the tie and unbuttoned his shirt, which softened the look. And that, ultimately, is the mark of a truly stylish man: confidently trying a bold new look, but having the awareness to know when it's not working and the courage to course correct.
