Here's What Started The Epic Designer Tweet Storm Everyone Is Talking

"FOR THE RECORD."

Hedi Slimane, the former artistic director of Saint Laurent, re-activated his long-dormant Twitter account on Thursday night to correct what he called "inaccurate statements" regarding his use of the house's iconic YSL logo. Slimane boldly changed the name of the company's ready-to-wear collections to Saint Laurent (which was actually the original name of the house's ready-to-wear collections) when he took over the house in 2012, but his successor Anthony Vacarello's debut collection—presented last month—prominently featured the YSL logo on everything from shoes to pins. It prompted The Cut's critic-at-large Cathy Horyn to note that "Vaccarello has restored the Y, which had been excised by his predecessor."

If you haven't been paying attention to the inner workings of fashion's biggest personalities, you might not know that Horyn and Slimane have been locked in a years-long feud. (Horyn once gave designer Raf Simons, who's now in charge of Calvin Klein, credit for creating the skinny suit, something Slimane has long insisted was his creation alone.) In fact the blood between Slimane and Horyn is so bad that he usually reserves his Twitter rants exclusively for railing against something she's written. And while he never specifically uses her name, it's hard not to imagine some of these tweets are about her. There are 22 in total and they're all worth reading, but you'll find our favorites below.

Bags! Confetti! In conclusion!

This is not to say that the point isn't worth being made, but Slimane could have saved himself some time and energy. Anyone who paid any level of attention to what he was doing while he held the reins at Saint Laurent will know that he was incredibly respectful of the brand's origins and identity—the way any creative director who works at a major fashion house has to be. The way Vacarello appears to be doing things out of the gate. The YSL never really went anywhere, and all the people who matter know it. And frankly, he'd be better served pouring his passion into a new collection than into Trump-level subtweets.
