Jerry Seinfeld will probably never be able to escape his reputation as the poster boy for ‘90s normcore (dad jeans, blousy button-ups, and windbreakers FTW), especially since, while his clothes have slimmed down significantly over the last 25 years, he hasn’t changed the formula all that much. Yesterday was a pretty big day for Jerry, however, and he suited up accordingly.
At a fatherhood-themed lunch to support his wife Jessica’s charity, the Good+ Foundation, which helps families in need, Seinfeld wore a handsome glen plaid suit by Ralph Lauren Purple Label. It fit him nicely (the pants were hemmed perfectly) and the blue-and-brown styling felt appropriate for daytime event. While it might be more Jerry’s style to go with simple navy or solid gray when it comes to tailoring, the check pattern helped establish him as a leader in the room—an important move considering it was filled with well-appointed dudes like Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Strahan, and David Lauren.
That night, Seinfeld moved on to another big-deal event: Obama’s final state dinner at the White House. There, he knocked it out of the park in a peak lapel tuxedo. Truth be told, there’s just nothing wrong with keeping things classic when it comes to black tie, particularly when you’re 62. Frank Ocean’s Vans were a cool move that worked for him, but Seinfeld was right not to break out his signature white Air Jordans as well. Instead, he just looked like a class act.
