The 50 Most-Googled Halloween Costumes of 2016

Because every guy you know is planning on doing the same thing.

Do you know what would suck? Working on the perfect Halloween costume for weeks, getting all the details right, and then showing up to a party wearing the same thing as every other guy in the room.

It's for that reason that Google's 2016 Freightgeist report is so important: it's a detailed report of the most-searched Halloween costumes of the year, both across the nation and right in your zip code. And while you'd assume Ken Bone, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton would top the list, they didn't even make the top 50.

Instead of dealing with the realities of this incredibly difficult year, it looks like people want to escape them by jumping into the movies they've seen or the video games they've played this year. Harley Quinn and the Joker, two characters from this year's hotly anticipated Suicide Squad, take the number one and two spots respectively. A general search for Star Wars costumes comes in at number eight. And Pikachu, thanks in large part to the popularity of Pokemon Go, landed at 12.

Luckily there's still time to make sure you don't dress up as exactly the same thing as everyone else. Take a look at the 50 most-Googled Halloween costumes below, and for a closer look at how they made the cut, play around with the Frightgeist report.
