We Want Shia LaBeouf's Throwback Nike Sneakers

As you might have heard, Shia LaBeouf is playing John McEnroe in an upcoming film called Borg vs. McEnroe. (You might have also heard the 30-year-old actor recently got hitched). But as LaBeouf is known for immersing himself heavily in his roles, he's taken at least one wardrobe item from the court in Prague back home to Los Angeles in the form of some old school Nike Wimbledon GTS sneakers. The shoes have a classic, stylish quality to them that defined so many early-to-mid '80s Nikes and made McEnroe one of the brand's early success stories. Since McEnroe's fiery personality brought notoriety to the sneakers, the brand has gone on to create iconic tennis styles including Andre Agassi's Tech Challenge and Roger Federer's Nike Court Zoom Vapor (perhaps the only tennis sneaker ever to create basketball shoe-like hype).

LaBeouf is rocking his pair in true LaBeouf form, with some cutoff shorts, a vintage tee, and perfect length socks (at least when it comes to wearing shorts). Nothing about his look is too modern or too old-timey, which lets the baby blue Swoosh shine. It's also worth noting LaBeouf's epic flow, which he's obviously grown out to mimic McEnroe's iconic locks (though we'd love to know just how long it takes to get LaBeouf's hair into quaffed, curly tennis mode).

Here's the thing: Nike no longer makes the Wimbledon GTS, though the Nike Tennis Classic is virtually identical. And as is the case with almost every Shia LaBeouf style move, the sneaker comes at a totally democratic price point. So, for now we'll just have to enjoy LaBeouf's off-camera style in the shoes, but it's what we think he's capable of on-screen that has us really excited.
