Nike's New Air Force 1s Are the Best Sneakers for Bad Weather

The Special Field AF1 is a shit-kicking boot and a court-ready high-top rolled into one killer sneaker.

If you're looking for some hybrid footwear action that's equal parts function and style, know there's a sneakerboot option at every pricepoint. Even Nike has recently tweaked certain styles to make them more suited for inclement weather, but for their latest Air Force 1, the label has taken inspiration from its own battlefield-ready footwear. (Nike actually makes boots that are approved by the U.S. Army for combat, which makes sense given the brand's history of technology and performance.) The result is the Special Field Air Force 1, an ultra high-top style made with durable materials that completely change the feel of the classic basketball sneaker. Like any other pair of army-inspired boots, the Special Field Air Force 1 is meant for wearing with you civilian wardrobe, like with a pair of dark jeans or some slim fit cargos and a bomber jacket (if you wan't to go for full military vibes).

But here's where this pair differs from most othe Air Force 1s: they're made to get dirty. Actually, we'd argue these Special Field versions—especially in the green colorway seen here— look better a little beat up. And that's a big deal when you consider that the history of the AF1s is tied to a sneaker culture that believed the cleaner the pair, the better they look. With winter on the way, though, it won't be long before you're able to take these from box fresh to battle worn.
