This Is What Skateboarding in $890 Dior Sneakers Looks Like

Between the resurgence of Dickie's and mid-length athletic socks to the popularity of graphic tees from brands like Palace, Alltimers, and Paradis3, it's clear that skate culture is having a huge influence on menswear right now. Demna Gvasalia cast Tbilisi-based skater Sandro Popkhadze in Balenciaga's runway show in June, while his label Vetements put Thrasher Magazine’s flames logo all over its coveted hoodies and tees. Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy has also riffed on the Thrasher logo, frequently incorporates skate references into his designs, and photographs editorials for Supreme. The result is that on the street, everyone suddenly looks like they belong on a half pipe.

Now luxury menswear icon Dior Homme is getting in on the game. Back in January the Kris Van Assche-designed brand staged its '80s New Wave-meets-90s-skater Fall 2016 collection among neon-lit skate ramps and half-pipes. That theme was carried over into the house's spring collection as well, as earlier this fall a Dior Homme film featuring skater-models Haden McKenna, Ben Nordberg, and Zack Riddle hit the Internet. And to celebrate the launch of the brand's skate-inspired sneaker collection, they've turned to another creative legend with roots in the skate world: "Kids" director Larry Clark, who directed the below video of skater kids hanging out in Paris (while wearing Dior Homme, of course).

The clothes look good and downright refreshing after years of "heritage" overload, so we can't say we mind the influx of riffs on the sport. Judging by how many real-life skaters are cashing in on the trend, doesn't seem like they do either.
