Two Stylish Guys Wore One Old Man Pattern Damn Well Last Night

If two guys as different as Terry Crews and Eddie Redmayne are wearing the same thing, you know it's gotta have a pretty wide appeal.

Both actors showed up to events on Thursday night wearing suits cut from glen plaid, the pattern that has graced the backs of royalty, entertainers, business magnates, and regular joes for over 100 years. While Crews opted for a single-breasted two-button version that was shot through with a light blue stripe (and lined in a fabric of the same color), Redmayne chose a double-breasted suit by Polo Ralph Lauren that had an authoritative peak lapel.

It makes sense that both of these stylish guys would end up in glen plaid. Legend has it that the pattern was originally developed as a uniform for Scottish groundskeepers, but it got mainstream popularity when the original guy's style icon, the Duke of Windsor, started wearing it in public. Because he was the Prince of Wales at the time, it became known widely as the Prince of Wales check.

Of course you don't need to be a prince (or have princely sums of money) to buy into this look. You'll find it at J.Crew, Junya Watanabe, and pretty much everywhere in between. And if its longevity proves anything, it's that you can buy something in this pattern and still be wearing it decades down the road.
