Justin Bieber's Fur Coat Continues His Head-Scratching Year in Style

Because we still have a few days left in 2016 to really hammer in that this year was the weirdest on record in memory (human history?), Justin Bieber stepped out in a fur coat that can only be described as "wow." And also "huh." Bieber is either channeling the style of my own mom circa 1988 (who still wears the mink coat to this day, and Bieber ain't got nothing on her swag levels), or is making an attempt to come at the insane-o throne of Conor McGregor. Or he's paying homage to the recently-passed Zsa Zsa Gabor, who made fur coats basically a part of her daily uniform.

It's a move that makes this outfit a little confusing if we're being honest. The pricey coat isn't quite bonkers enough to telegraph the DGAF greatness of Namath or Teddy Pendergrass or Diddy's late '90s love affair with chinchilla. Kanye West famously rapped "Tell PETA my mink is draggin' on the floor," an instigating lyric if there ever were one, back in 2012. But Bieber's isn't even close to the floor. The pop star opted for a cropped, hooded version of the ultimate outerwear swerve which is a silhouette more often found in womenswear (then again, what is gender in 2016?). Frankly where the hem hits (at high thigh) puts his whole rig at risk. It's only Bieber's ripped jeans and Saint Laurent boots, which have become hallmarks of his style, that keep his look grounded in reality. Then again, when you're Justin Bieber, things like "the real world" and "how people actually wear clothes" don't need to be of much concern.

Ultimately, even in sub-freezing temperatures, a giant fur coat isn't a move we can honestly recommend anyone to wear. The morality of fur debate aside, it's hard not to look silly in one even when you're famous enough to not give a damn what we think.
