Michael Fassbender Knows How to Wear Black and Brown Together This Winter

The style rule that once dictated wearing black and brown together is as antiquated as your alt-right uncle's politics. It's also flat out wrong. Michael Fassbender, actor and former badass altar boy, has a firm grasp on how to confidently bring the two opposing colors together in one very chill outfit. Earlier today in London he stepped out wearing a brown bomber jacket with black jeans, and looked every bit the movie star that he is. Here's how you can cop his moves.

Find black and brown pieces that can live in harmony.

Fassbender's black bomber works OK with black thanks to the jacket's black ribbing around the neckline and cuffs. His jeans, meanwhile, feel sort of earthy and rugged because they're nicely broken in. These are the kind of details that'll give you that "yep, this works" feeling when you look in the mirror.

Add another non-threatening neutral into the mix.

A third color always helps soften the contrast between black and brown. We like Fassbender's choice of gray, if only because it blends into the background. If you can limit yourself to three tones per outfit, you'll be playing it safe. Had Fassbender thrown some navy or white into the mix, he might have looked a little all over the place.
