Back in January, we suggested that the Nike Blazer was poised to have a pretty big year. The underappreciated sneaker had been recently revamped by designer Virgil Abloh, and the Swoosh gave it mainline release in several extremely wearable colorways. (Not to mention: LeBron James kept Instagramming it, which always helps.) Now, the Year of the Blazer continues, with the latest wave of the red-hot Nike x Sacai collaboration set to drop later this week.
As with previous sneaker collaborations from the Swoosh and the forward-thinking Japanese label, you get two Nikes for the price of one. This time, Sacai designer Chitose Abe crashes the Blazer and the Dunk together. The result is a silhouette that feels like a high-fashion sneaker that’s been stylishly Frankenstein-ed back to life. That means double tongues, double shoelaces, and double swooshes. The bold mid-top silhouette of the original Blazer was always something of an outlier, but both Nike and Sacai have taken that eccentricity to a whole new level. This design is offered in both black and white, and while the white colorway looks tamer by comparison, neither sneaker will exactly fly below the radar.
It’s no accident that the Blazer found itself in the midst of one of the hottest sneaker collaborations of the year. The low-key Nike silhouette has been a cult-level fan favorite for decades, and it was almost like it was just waiting for a moment in the sun. (Simple shape, bold details—it’s the ideal playground for fashion designers.) Since Nike x Sacai debuted on the runway, this pumped-up shoe was destined for hyped sneaker glory. And something tells us this isn’t the last you’ll be hearing about the Nike Blazer before the year is over.
$140, available October 10 via Nike.
