Almost.
Under Armour may have got the last laugh because according to them, the shoe was a success. (the dads we talked to seemed to like them too). In the sneaker biz, the bottom line accounts for a lot. And it's not like they were going to halt production on the Curry line because of a few Twitter jokes. So on goes the Curry sneaker machine and this week, UA unveiled the Curry 3 along with a brand new commercial titled "Make That Old" that focuses on Curry's success, his failures, and the future.
While the action is centered around basketball (because duh), the commercial could also be a referencing the criticism of Curry's earlier kicks. Curry knows that his 2 MVPs, his Championship Ring, and his record-breaking stats all are meaningless now that the new season is about to start, but maybe that sentiment includes last season's sneakers, too.
So, the question is: How do they hold up to the 2s? Are they the world-changing re-design that will catapult Steph Curry to the top of the sneaker game, not just in sales (where he may very well surpass LeBron James this year) but in design, too? Well, not so fast. The Curry 3, a hi-top style, is much sleeker than the 2 and has tons of cool tech in it like Under Armour's Meta Wing, which is a "carbon fiber shank that provides locked-in stability through heel, arch & forefoot." Aesthetically, it's not quite the masterpiece that Curry's jump shot is. But with this stellar commercial behind them, they're good enough for Curry—and his kicks—to take the next step into the future.
